What You Should Ask Before Selecting An Air Conditioning Contractor For Sales Or Service

The cooling & heating system in your home or office is usually the largest and most expensive appliance in the structure.  So you want to make sure that anyone you select to repair or replace it is well qualified to do the work.  That means ensuring they have the proper training, licenses, insurances as well as a solid history and good track record.

Here’s a list of questions that you should ask of any and every air conditioning company you invite to work on or replace your current system. The answers contain brief information regarding the topic and will help you make a smart and comfortable decision.

Q. Are you licensed by the State of Florida? What is your license number?
A.
Under Florida law, a property owner can actually be fined up to $5,000 for using a non-licensed air conditioning contractor. Cox's license number is CAC024359.

Q. Are you insured?
A.
If an uninsured contractor gets hurt on your property, you may be responsible for his medical bills and lost wages. You may also be responsible for any damage done to your property or a neighbor’s property.  Cox is fully licensed, bonded and insured. We're happy to provide you with a copy of our insurance certificate upon request.

Q. How long have you been in business?
A.
This will help you determine the reliability and soundness of the company and to get a sense of whether the company will be there to service your equipment. Cox has been in business since 1958, and services thousands of customers in the area.

Q. Can your service department handle any emergency repairs I may need?
A.
Make sure the dealer has professionally-trained technicians, plus adequate staff, equipment and trucks to respond to your needs promptly.  Does the company provide after-hours service if necessary? Cox service technicians are all NATE certified and have tested to be among the best in the industry.  Cox is also a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer.  As such, Carrier Corporation backs our installation work with a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee!

Q. Do you provide valid service contracts?
A. Find out if the company is licensed by the state to sell service contracts. If not, you should be concerned about who will repair your equipment if the company goes out of business.  Plus, selling service contracts without a valid state license is against the law. Cox's Florida Warranty License Number is 80050.

Q. When installing new equipment, do you "pull" all the required permits?
A. This makes sure that an installation job is done correctly and inspected by the proper agencies.  If there is no permit, you may be required to have the work done over, even if it was installed properly.  Cox always pulls and posts permits and never sub-contracts our A/C work.
